What does the term "responsive website" mean?
A responsive website is one that optimizes itself based on the device it is being viewed on, whether that be mobile phone, tablet, desktop, or laptop.
It is very important to cater to mobile phone users. A recent study (Jan 2020) shows that mobile phone users account for approximately half of all web traffic worldwide. In the fourth quarter of 2019, mobile phones generated 52.6% of global website traffic.
We put in the effort to ensure that all of the sites we build are highly responsive. You can expect your finished product to look and feel great no matter who accesses it or what device they use.
Do you create custom sites, or basically the same site for everyone?
There are some design companies out there who use a cookie-cutter approach for all of their websites, meaning they simply swap out your logos and contact info and then charge you thousands of dollars.
You’ve probably visited sites like this in the past. They have often been described as feeling cheap and disconnected from their actual visitors.
We custom build every website from the ground up to make sure we nail your desired tone, goals, and connect to your customers in a meaningful way that inspires productive action. For more on this, you can check out our 7 Key Design Principles.
How much does your service cost?
Every client has different goals and needs for their website. As such, pricing fluctuates from one project to another.
We offer a free video consultation to kick things off and use that information to create an initial site map for free. Once we are all on the same page regarding the expected deliverable, we will be able to nail down pricing.
All of that being said;
-
We are very up-front about our pricing, and what is and is not included. No surprises.
-
Many of our clients have paid 2x to 5x less when working with us as compared to bids they’ve received.
I have an existing website that needs to be updated - do you do updates, or only brand new websites?
We are happy to both create brand new sites AND update existing sites. We find that many clients are already satisfied with the existing content of their current site but need a more modern design. In these cases, we are careful to capture and preserve all existing content as we transition into an updated site design.
I really like the way that [website xyz] looks. Can you make me something like that?
Yes. It’s actually a great idea to find inspiration from sites that you like. Within reason, we can replicate many pages and features of other sites. If there is something that we won’t be able to do, we will let you know up-front.
What is a "dark themed" website?
Most websites predominately feature a light-colored or white background, with a dark or black text.
As seen in the example below, a dark-themed website is exactly the opposite, with a dark background and light-colored text. Sites like this tend to be easier on the eyes at night and force colors to “pop” more than a light-themed site.
Entirely dark-themed sites are starting to become more popular, but the majority of the internet is still composed of traditionally light-themed sites. We are capable of producing both types of sites. We often will design isolated dark-themed sections to highlight important pages or elements.
How are the colors selected for my website?
We aim to create a cohesive experience throughout your whole site. The colors will primarily be based on your brand identity and logo. We will also take usability and legibility into account to make sure your visitors have as comfortable an experience as possible.
I don't have a logo yet. Do I need that completed before you start working on the site?
We will be theming your site based on your company/brand identity (logo, colors, taglines, etc.) Whenever you do get us those items, we will incorporate them to create a cohesive experience. We will need them before the site is launched, but we do not require them to start our work.
If you would like recommendations for graphic designers who could create logos for you, we have friends and connections we could put you in contact with.
Where do all of the pictures / video for my site come from?
“A picture is worth a thousand words. A video is probably worth a thousand pictures.”
-Wayne Gretsky
-Michael Scott
If you have existing image and/or video content, we are happy to integrate that into your site. If you need (additional) images, the most common method is to purchase stock imagery. We will be able to guide you through all of these options, depending on your needs.
If you are looking for a professional photographer, videographer, etc. we can also point you in the right direction.
Who writes all of the text content for my website?
We will work together on the overall main concepts and sections for the site. In our standard agreement the majority of responsibility for writing content falls on you. If you’d prefer, we can offer our copywriting services for some or all of the required content, for an additional fee.
When you've finished building my site, do you own it?
You retain 100% ownership of the site, all content, intellectual property, and brand identity – both during our process and after our work is completed.
